Hino 300 Series 717 Crew Cab - The Pride of KLM Gas' Fleet
WITH HINO, NOT MAKING A DELIVERY IS NOT AN OPTION.
When you’re a delivery business, there are a few non-negotiables to look out for when setting up your business. You need to know your truck is going to kick over every time without failure, you must have a good Aftersales servicing program, and you need a truck that is comfortable, safe, powerful, and reliable for those longer drives. These are just a few of the reasons why Callan McNamara, Gas Fitter and Delivery Driver from KLM Gas, chose Hino as his brand of choice to support his family business.
Tell us a bit about KLM Gas.
KLM Gas is a family-owned business and has been using Hino trucks for almost 17 years, to help deliver LPG for home and commercial use, all over Queensland. KLM was started by my parents Kel and Lorraine, and we now have five family members directly involved in the day-to-day operations, and another three that help when required. The business started after a family friend who was in the industry suggested that there was a market in our area to deliver gas… so we thought we’d hop on the opportunity!
You mentioned you have seven Hino trucks in your fleet. That’s awesome! Why did you pick Hino?
After lots of research and talking to others who owned Hino trucks, we bought our first one in 2005; a 300 Series Dutro. Since then, we have purchased a number of 300 Series, from 616’s 717’s and 917’s. They are great! Super easy and comfortable to drive, and the dealership staff at our local Hino dealer help make our Aftersales experience an enjoyable one.
What we loved, and still love, is that our Hino trucks very rarely let us down.
How do the specs differ between your newer and your older 300 Series trucks, and what is consistent between them?
Our newest Hino 300 Series trucks perform great. They seem slightly smoother and are very powerful. The ergonomics of the newer and older Hino trucks we have are similar, which is great because this consistency helps our drivers in being able to drive other trucks in our fleet when they need to.
Which model is the pride of your fleet?
Our Hino 300 Series 717 Crew Cab is the pride of our fleet. It is the truck we use for deliveries and gas fitting duties, so we use it all the time. One of the things we love, is that it’s big enough to store our gear and equipment during wet weather conditions and when hot, the dual aircon also comes in very handy. The job also requires me to be on call for weekends if people require deliveries, so it allows me to take my family with me. We also get to see the countryside, and occasionally get a sneaky lunch break at the beach or in the hinterland if we’re lucky. I also use it to tow my off-road race car to events, so it gets plenty of use.
You say the Aftersales service is great at Hino. What makes it so great?
We have always had a great experience when it comes to servicing. We purchase our oils, service kits and genuine spare parts through our local dealership – Wideland Hino in the Sunshine Coast. They always have everything we need in stock and deliver it straight to our depot. Not to mention, they are always so friendly and helpful, which makes the experience even better.
If you could sum up your experience with Hino (purchasing, servicing, truck features etc…), what would you say to someone looking to buy a Hino?
I would tell anyone considering a Hino to go ahead and make the purchase. Hino trucks can go through a lot of stop/start conditions with ease and are super comfortable which makes long drives an enjoyable experience instead of a chore. Not only do Hino make outstanding trucks but the Aftersales service is also great… always reliable.
The team at KLM Gas can’t take their foot off the gas, being on call around the clock seven days a week. We’re happy to hear the business trust and rely on our trucks to help them service their area. Callan, we hope you enjoy lots more Saturday cruises in your 300 Series 717 Crew Cab!
If you are in Brisbane Hinterlands region and need gas, give the KLM team a call. With trucks this reliable, you know they’ll turn up.
