How Hino drives Coolstar Transport to success!
Working with perishables is stressful enough, so when it came to extending his fleet of trucks, Ramsey Noshie, Director at Coolstar Transport, did his research. For Ramsay, choosing Hino was a no-brainer.
After hearing loads of positive reviews, he knew he could trust Hino to deliver safe, reliable trucks for his business.
From the easy process of purchasing a second-hand truck, to the great performance of their two Hino 300 Series 917 trucks, Coolstar Transport is excited to expand their fleet with a Hino 500 Series in the near future. Thanks to Hino, their business is continuing to grow.
Tell us a bit about Coolstar Transport.
I started Coolstar Transport four years ago, working with major food and beverage suppliers, like Coles, Aldi, Woolworths and Metcash, to deliver goods across Sydney, Canberra, Wollongong, and Newcastle. From having just one employee in 2018, we now have six people working within the family business.
Why did you decide to purchase Hino?
I started toying with the idea of purchasing a Hino all the way back when I first got into the Transport business in 2009. The feedback from other drivers was that Hino made the most reliable trucks. My dad was also a big fan of Hino trucks and the best information always comes from the operators themselves, so we trusted the opinion of other drivers, and we’re glad we did.
When our trucks are on the road delivering perishables, it’s important that we don’t have any delays due to equipment failure, so when we saw first-hand how reliable Hino was… we decided to keep purchasing!
How has Hino proven to be a reliable business partner for Coolstar Transport?
Our trucks are on the road five days a week; they are our workhorses. Not only have our Hino trucks proven reliable because they never break down, the ability to source Hino Genuine Parts is always a quick and easy process.
For example, on one occasion when we were travelling on the Hume Highway in our Hino 300 Series 917, I accidently picked up a branch off the road and broke a few fan blades. When going up a hill, I noticed the truck temperature go up slightly, but it didn’t overheat. I managed to finish the run, get back to our depot, and had a mobile mechanic replace the fan blades and do a quick check-up that evening so the truck was ready to go again the following morning.
When your trucks are your business, you can’t afford to have them off the road, and with the help of Hino, we didn’t have to.
What do you like most about Hino and how does the latest model differ from your 2014 vehicle, and other trucks you’ve driven?
We love the unparalleled comfort, the reliability, and the great servicing costs we get with both of our Hino 300 Series 917 trucks. With the 2022 model, features like the Multimedia Unit and Cruise Control, set it apart from the older model. The multimedia unit is exceptional. People on the other side of the phone-line never seem to know we are talking to them from within a truck… which almost never happens in any vehicle.
In regard to how Hino compares to other trucks I’ve driven, the Active Cruise Control was something that I hadn’t seen in any other truck, which we love. The Bluetooth system in the truck is also fantastic, and the auto gear box in the Hino makes it feel like you’re driving a car – it’s incredibly smooth between gear changes… I’ve never driven another truck like it.
Which dealership did you purchase your truck from, and what did they do to make sure you got the right truck for your needs?
We went to Adtrans Hino in Mascot. Our Sales Representative was great. He asked the right questions to make sure we received the right vehicle for the job we needed to do. For example, he recommended a light-duty truck, as this is what best suited our business at the time. Now that our business is growing, it might be time to upgrade and look at medium-duty Hino.
What is the advantage to upgrading to a medium-duty truck?
The power of a Hino 500 Series would allow us to take on additional work to the larger distribution centres, that the smaller trucks don’t have access to. It will also allow us to take on more work, increasing revenue and ultimately expand our operations.
Driver shortage is a big topic of conversation in the industry. How are you retaining drivers?
This is a great question. In the Transport Industry, it’s difficult to retain loyal drivers at the best of times. People are often looking for better opportunities, so go from job to job, and sometimes change industries completely. For us, having trucks that can be driven on a car license is helpful.
If you could sum up your experience with Hino (purchasing, servicing, truck features etc…), what would you say to someone looking to buy a Hino?
I would tell them to definitely consider a Hino truck. The modern technology for drivers is far superior to any other manufacturer. From the comfort of the trucks to the safety features, to all the other technological advancements, there’s no other truck’s like them.
Ramsey came to Hino for reliability, and he wasn’t disappointed. With comfort, safety, performance, and advanced tech, Ramsey chose to extend his business for future success.
